The practitioner
Sam Hargreaves is a fully trained acupuncturist and a member of the British Acupuncture Council. He works in the Halifax area of West Yorkshire and has a specific interest in treating chronic fatigue syndrome/ME and fibromyalgia.
What is acupuncture?
Acupuncture is a medical healing system in which very fine needles are inserted into locations on the body called acupuncture points. It has been practised in China for at least 2000 years and has developed into a detailed and complete system of health promotion. It focuses on improving the overall well being of the patient, addressing specific symptoms and any underlying reason for those symptoms.
What does acupuncture treat?
People come for acupuncture with a wide range of problems, from clearly defined and diagnosed conditions to vague feelings of being unwell or tired. Conditions that we often see in clinic and may benefit from acupuncture include:
· Anxiety and panic attacks
· Headaches and migraines
· Chronic fatigue syndrome (ME), fibromyalgia and multiple sclerosis (MS)
· Insomnia, depression and stress
· Asthma, sinus problems and hay fever
· Menstrual difficulties
· Gastrointestinal and urinary problems such as irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) and cystitis
· Infertility and other sexual problems (male and female)
· Back and neck pain, frozen shoulder, tennis elbow, sciatica, arthritic and rheumatic pain
